2018 Alumni of the Year Awards Ceremony Nomination Form
Each academic degree-granting college is invited to participate in this annual high-profile awards ceremony that takes place on the Friday afternoon of Homecoming week. This event gives colleges a unique opportunity to honor, highlight and profile accomplished alumni while increasing outreach and development. Each award winner is profiled in a video that can be used as a keepsake for the award winner and other publicity purposes.
Cost to participate: $800 per unit, which is used to help underwrite the costs associated with the event (invitations, programs, event and publicity production, catering and awards).
Deadline information: Many colleges seek an early decision on their nominations in order for their award recipient to schedule a return to campus for the ceremony. Colleges need the information as soon as possible because they integrate their award winners into other Homecoming programming. To allow for adequate time to process 15 or more Alumni of the Year awards and develop an impactful awards ceremony, it is essential the awards process moves forward in a timely manner in all aspects of the program. This includes nomination submission and collateral information needed from the award winners like invitation lists and photographs.
In previous years, delays in receiving information resulted in delays impacting the collective group, such as mailing out of invitations. With this in mind, please adhere to the deadlines below.
March 15, 2018 is the initial deadline to submit nominations. Nominations submitted by this date will receive an awards determination by May 15, 2018.
The following information must be included and uploaded with the submission.
- Two letters of recommendation: one from the dean of the nominating college and one from another person (see nomination criteria below).
- A separate resume or detailed biographical statement or information on the nominee. Additional information from online or other sources can be included. Ensure that the information is updated and accurate.
Criteria for the nomination to be included in the two letters of recommendation:
Being as specific and detailed as possible, describe why and how the nominee has helped ensure the college's success and future by a) bestowing honor or recognition on the college and/or b) making significant contributions of time or resources to further the college's mission.
The criteria used in the Association’s Awards and Recognition Program for its various award categories can be a useful reference for determining extraordinary achievement that has bestowed honor or recognition on the college. For example, extraordinary achievement can be in a variety of areas including professional achievement, humanitarian or public service, advocacy for education, distinguished volunteerism or service to students.
Please note: We need the nominating college to include as much detail as possible about the nominee and his/her professional and personal background. The association's awards committee reviews each nomination with great scrutiny. In addition, this information will be incorporated into awards citations for the approved nominees and a video highlighting the award winner. Please also provide interesting details about your nominee.
Once the nominee has been approved, the college may be asked to supply additional information to be used in the award citation.
