ZocDoc is a sponsor of Arizona’s Career Mixer in Scottsdale on Wednesday, May 28, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Skysong. Co-hosted by the UA Alumni Association, the mixer brings alumni and students from all three state universities together with top employers from across Arizona.
ZocDoc is a free service that allows patients to find a nearby doctor or dentist who accepts their insurance, see their real-time availability, and instantly book an appointment via the ZocDoc website or app. We talked to two UA alumni at about their careers at ZocDoc – and what they miss about the UA!
“I’ve learned in every job I’ve had that the people you work with and the culture of your company will define your level of satisfaction in your work environment and enrich your life,” says Ryan Stam ’04 (marketing).
“Wherever you start, find something that you love to do," he says. "But more importantly, find people you’d love to work with.”
Ryan is a director of sales, focused on sales training and development. He’s been at ZocDoc for six years.
“My favorite part of my work at ZocDoc is the great people with whom I work every day. 'Great People' is a core value of ZocDoc’s, and I see it in action daily," he says. "I continually look forward to working with my team and the salespeople we develop, as well as growing together as a company.”
Ryan’s always been a people person – the people he met at UA were his favorite part of campus. He fondly recalls living in Coronado Hall his freshman year and being a part of the Eller College of Management.
“Applying for and ultimately being accepted into the Eller College helped drive my competitive nature,” Ryan says.
Ryan met his wife while at UA, too.
“One more absolutely unforgettable memory would be watching my friend at the time (now my wife) dancing on stage to the Mockingbirds at O'Malleys on a Thursday night on 4th Ave,” he says.
Mary Gu ’13 (physiology; molecular and cellular biology) has been with ZocDoc for almost a year. She is a senior operations associate.
“My day-to-day consists of helping practices manage their account by diagnosing issues and concerns with their accounts and finding ways to optimize features within the account to boost their online presence,” she says.
Not too long ago, Mary was a UA student who loved the late night burritos at Highland Market.
“The fondest memory I have, since I’m kind of a library nerd,” Mary says, “was watching football games from the fifth floor of the main library.”
Her career advice for fellow Wildcats is to always give something a shot.
“You never know what you’ll get out of it, and it may end up being just what you need.”
