Then and Now

Then: The first UA Homecoming queen, sophomore Ruth Tackett of Tucson, was crowned in 1947. Bobcats Senior Honorary coordinates the selection of Homecoming royalty.

Now: Today, more than 50 applicants are nominated for Homecoming queen, and they are narrowed down to five finalists through a campus-wide vote. In 1983, Don Hayes was selected as the first Homecoming king. For the last quartercentury, the crowning of the king and queen has been part of the Homecoming bonfire celebration on Friday night.
